Updated title: "Writing and identity: Case study of a nonprofit adult ESL classroom." This presentation is part of a larger qualitative study of a nonprofit in Knoxville, Tennessee, that serves adult ESL learners. Findings deal with how adult learners understand their own identity and writing needs in the classroom, how the program views and responds to learner writing needs, and how instructors respond and understand learner writing needs. The presentation will provide pedagogical suggestions for the nonprofit adult ESL writing classroom.
