A challenge in writing a personal statement is how to use one’s “worlds” as the backdrop to promote self. Drawing on a narrative analysis of a successful personal statement and a semi-structured interview of a text-mediator, this study seeks to specify awareness of context in the genre knowledge of personal statement writing.
