This presentation asks the question:
  • What happened when international L2 students were asked to communicate using VIDEO instead of TEXT in the online discussion board of their U.S. undergraduate English composition course?
Short answers:
  • Amplification of language practice.
  • Increased feelings of language competency and self-confidence.
  • Warmer classroom environment.
An acknowledged writing activity, peer review is challenging among L2 students. This presentation compares L2 undergraduates' online discourse using asynchronous VIDEO to that of TEXT during peer review activities in discussion boards. The purpose is to learn if video improves peer interaction and connection to the draft.
